Book review no spoilers I swear!!!

Welcome back bookish folk! Today I am reviewing the brilliant book that is The Mix Up by Holly McCulloch. I reviewed her debut, Just Friends, last year and if you haven't read that yet. Please do check it out! The Mix Up is McCulloch's second novel and my word, what a beautiful book it is. I adored it so much that I just want to share it with everyone! It is probably one of the best books I've read this year without a doubt. So before I tell you more about this brilliant book how about the blurb. Give you an idea of what it's about.

The Blurb:

Paige might bake wedding cakes for a living but that doesn't mean she's dreaming about her own perfect day. Far from it.

Trusting people is hard after she was badly let down by her family and boyfriend just when she needed them most. And to make things worse, her ex has just walked into her bakery with his new fiancée...

Needing a little no-strings-attached fun, Paige goes to a party where her friend knows just the guy - the guy in the black top.

There's just one problem. There are two men wearing black tops.

Noah was meant to be her perfect distraction...instead, he wants more than just a bit of fun. But could the wrong guy turn out to be the right choice?

Thoughts:

I loved this book so BLOODY much! Holly McCulloch's writing is fresh, fun and flirty with so much heart that I couldn't put it down!

Noah is suppose to be a one-night stand. A page of a book in the story of Paige. Only he seems to take up more than just a page in Paige's life, much to her annoyance. He is everything that she doesn't want, everything that she promised herself she never needed. So how come she finds herself drawn to him?

I loved Noah as a character, he's everything that Paige deserves, a good heart and the purest of souls, he is the type of man that you don't forget very easily. He's the type of guy you look back at and think, "What if I had stayed?"

Paige is the type of main character that is strong, funny and extremely talented at first glance. She's had to deal with bad health and has come out of it stronger and her talents for cakes knows no bounds! As I read more and more Paige's strong character begins to break down. She's vulnerable and has many insecurities that a lot of women can identify with. Cake layer by cake layer, I fell more in love with her character, I wanted her to believe in herself and screamed in frustration when she did something stupid and cried at her darkest moments. Paige is the type of character that can make you laugh, smile but also can pull at your heartstrings with her absolute realness. This is one thing that makes McCulloch's writing so enjoyable and unputdownable.

The Mix Up is a story of love, heartbreak and overcoming the hardships of life. It's funny and powerful and McCulloch isn't afraid to get real about breast cancer. I loved how not only did she involve breast cancer into the story-line, but highlighted the long-term effects it can have and that no matter how scary things may be, love has the power to carry you through it.

Rating: 5* out of 5

After all, tomorrow is another day spent reading.

Till next time,

Phoebe x
