Book Review no spoilers I swear!!

Hello readers! I'm so happy to be sharing my thoughts on the newest book by Emily Kerr, Her Fixer Upper which is due to be published on 19th May in Kindle and 25th May is Paperback! Firstly I would like to say thank you to the publishers for sending me an ARC in return for an honest review. All thoughts are my own and unbiased. Before I tell you my thoughts, how about I let you guys get an idea of what this book is actually about.

Blurb:

Unable to afford their own homes, two friends decide to buy a renovation house together as a project.

What could possibly go wrong…?

Freya dreams of owning her own home.

Charlie is struggling to get a mortgage.

When the two old friends bump into each other on a night out, Charlie jokes that buying together would solve all their problems. He doesn’t expect Freya to say yes, let alone yes to a less-than-perfect fixer upper.

Nobody said renovating their dream home would be easy, but will Charlie and Freya fall out of love with the house, or in love with each other…

From the winner of the Romantic Comedy award at the Romantic Novelists’ Association awards 2023, this is the perfect feel-good read for fans of Beth O’Leary and Lia Louis.

Thoughts:

This novel is a gem! One of the first things that pulled me towards it was the fact it is set in Leeds, Yorkshire and if you didn't gather from the name of my blog. I am from Yorkshire so I think it's safe to say that this book had my heart from the get go.

Another thing that drew me was the trope. This is a friends to lovers trope and its a story line that I love to read. Friends to lovers just feels so natural and beautiful in books. Freya and Charlie are old friends that get in touch again when they are struggling to get onto the property ladder. Being a young homeowner myself, I was fortunate to find a home with my partner and fixing the house up was not only rewarding but extremely challenging, a lot of ups and downs and even a year on we are still struggling. With this in mind I was hoping to see the real struggles that I had in this book. Kerr brings realism into the story through the portrayal of these struggles, of owning a house and living with someone who has a different style to you. These are things our characters, Charlie and Freya deal with and it's refreshing to see.

This is the definition of feel-good romance. Reading this book you feel a connection with the characters and you want them to succeed because these characters have such realism you see a part of yourself within them. Overall the journey Charlie and Freya go on is full of highs and lows, fun and love.

Rating: 4 out of 5*

After all tomorrow is another day spent reading.

Till next time,

Phoebe x
