Christmas Every Day
Love and Lies at the Village Christmas Shop.
By Portia MacIntosh
No Spoiler's I swear!
Literally read this book in a day and it left me with a huge book hangover and a painful headache for I read too much but I can tell you now it was so worth it.
I picked this little jem up in The Works in Carlisle but I'm sure, even certain that you can get it from any Works shop. They have a fantastic Christmas selection at the moment and all 3 for £5 so what are you waiting for, get yourself down there. There's books by Erin Green, Carole Matthews, Holly Martin etc...
But I'm not here to talk about those amazing authors, I'm here to talk about Portia MacIntosh who I never heard of until I found this book in the Christmas section and now after reading this wonderful book I am now wanting to read more of her delicious books.
This book was originally published October 2018 and is a Christmas romance, drama, comedy.
The story takes place over the Christmas period in which Ivy, owner of Christmas Evert Day shop that was left to her by her late mother lives and breaths the wonderful season every day. Ivy loves the magical season and loves to read, the only thing missing from her peaceful life is a dash of romance in which her twin sister, Holly won't let her forget.
Although the business isn't doing well and Ivy finds herself surrounded by bills she doesn't give in but fights harder to keep the store her mother loved so much. That is until handsome and mysterious businessman, Seb shows up into the small town of Marram Bay to bulldozer over Ivy's store to build a new holiday complex. Can Ivy stop him and find love over Christmas?
Sounds great doesn't it?
When I read the blurb I thought that it would be a cheesy and not satisfying read, how wrong I was! Yes there is cheesy bits but what romcom doesn't? This book it packed with laughs and a lot of heart. The characters are fun and real in that Ivy isn't shown as perfect but a Yorkshire woman who is 5ft 3. I love this as I am a Yorkshire woman who is also 5ft 3. Anyway, moving on, Ivy has many sides to her as she is caring, fun, feisty, and resilient, all things that make for an excellent role model and I something that I found I could connect with. Other characters such as Holly and Seb also have great qualities but in order for you to find out your gonna have to read the book.
This is an excellent book for over the Christmas period as its a book that you can sit down in the afternoon on the sofa with a thick blanket and a hot cuppa of Yorkshire Tea. That what I did anyway and it was perfect so I strongly recommend you do it too.
Side note, this book is part of a series that is based is Marram Bay the first on being Summer Secrets at the Apple Blossom Deli (2018) and the next one is Make or Break at the Lighthouse B&B which is coming out in 2020 I believe. But you don't need to read the first book to understand this book but I'm going to read the first one regardless because I am hooked with MacIntosh's work.
So my verdict is that this is a great book. Its warm, heartfelt, funny and makes me want to open a Christmas store and to fall in love. This is a book that I will remember and probably revisit over the Christmas period as it would be rude not too.
